After Your Brazilian Blow: 48-Hour Do’s and Don’ts
By Hair By Camille | October 1, 2026
Brazilian Blowout appointment time: 90 minutes | Investment: $225
If you’re getting a Brazilian Blowout to tame frizzy hair, the first 48 hours make or break your result. The biggest rule is simple: don’t wash, tie, clip, or heavily manipulate your hair for 48 hours, and skip sweaty workouts and swimming during that window too. We see a lot of guests here in Lexington choose this service because they want smoother, more manageable hair that holds up through our humidity, especially around the Regency area near the Hamburg and Polo Club corridor.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: the crease-free rule that matters most
Think of the first two days as “hands off time.” Any bend you set into the hair, a ponytail dent, a clip line, even tucking behind the ears too aggressively, can leave a lasting crease while the smoothing result is settling. If you’re in the New Circle Road and I-75 corridor running errands, keep it easy. Hair down, gentle, and loose.
48-hour non-negotiables: No shampooing. No ponytails or tight buns. No barrettes, bobby pins, headbands, or hats that rub. Avoid heavy sweating and skip swimming.
If your hair gets damp by accident
Life happens. If you get caught in a Lexington summer storm or you accidentally splash your hair, don’t panic. Gently blot, don’t rough it up with a towel. Then blow dry it smooth right away using a moderate heat setting and a brush that won’t snag. The goal is to dry it straight so you don’t lock in a bend.
Workout guidance (yes, it matters)
We generally recommend skipping strenuous exercise for the first 24 to 48 hours. Sweat at the scalp and hairline can cause frizz and waves to pop back up early. If you absolutely have to move, keep it light and keep hair down. Save the heavy cardio for after the 48-hour mark.
Days 3 to 7: keep Lexington humidity from stealing your smooth finish
After 48 hours, you can wash and style normally, but your choices this first week still show up in how long your Brazilian Blowout stays sleek. In Lexington, humid summer days can bring frizz back fast if your routine fights the smoothing work we just did. Then in fall, the weather flips and hair can feel drier, which makes it tempting to overdo hot tools. We’ll keep you right down the middle.
Washing after 48 hours
Use a sulfate-free, low-sodium shampoo and conditioner. That combo helps you hold onto the smoothness and shine that people love about a Brazilian Blowout. Keep your water warm, not scorching. And when you towel dry, squeeze and blot instead of twisting.
Sun, sweat, and friction add up
If you’re outside, protect your hair the same way you protect your skin. Sun exposure can dry the hair out and make it feel rougher. And at night, friction is the sneaky one. A silk pillowcase helps a lot, or at minimum, keep hair in a very loose, low tie using a soft scrunchie after the 48-hour window.
Quick win: If you’re prone to frizz at the hairline, blow drying the roots after workouts (once you’re past 48 hours) often keeps the whole style looking fresher longer.
Products that keep a Brazilian Blowout looking expensive (not limp)
You don’t need a shelf full of products. You need the right types, used consistently. That’s what stretches your result so you’re not chasing frizz every time Lexington weather swings.
Your must-haves
- Sulfate-free, low-sodium shampoo and conditioner: Helps keep the smoothing effect intact.
- Heat protectant: Any time you blow dry or use a flat iron, protect first. Smooth hair still needs protection.
- Weekly moisturizing treatment: Keeps hair feeling soft instead of coated. This matters even more as we move into cooler, drier months.
What to avoid
Avoid harsh clarifying shampoos unless we specifically tell you to use one. Also be careful with salty sprays and anything that’s meant to create grit. Those products are great for beachy texture, but they can shorten the life of a Brazilian Blowout.
Pools, ocean, hot tubs: the 7 to 14-day rule we tell our Lexington clients
If you can, stay out of pools, hot tubs, and ocean water for at least 7 to 14 days after your Brazilian Blowout. Chlorine and salt can rough up the hair and make the smoothing result fade faster. This is a big one for families who spend weekends in the water, or for anyone traveling right after their appointment.
If you end up swimming anyway
Rinse your hair immediately with fresh water. Then shampoo with your sulfate-free product, condition well, and gently detangle. If you’re in a hurry, at least rinse thoroughly and add conditioner until you can do a full wash.
Maintenance plan that works: Most guests do best with a monthly humidity-control check-in. We’ll look at how the blowout is wearing and keep your ends in good shape with trims as needed.
If you’re coming in from Nicholasville, Versailles, Georgetown, Winchester, or Richmond, we’ll time your follow-ups so you’re not making extra trips. We’ll also send you home with quick reminders so you’re not guessing in the mirror.
If something feels “off, ” reach out and we’ll walk you through it
We’re big on clear communication. Our salon is a small, comfortable space in the Regency area near the Hamburg and Polo Club corridor, and we keep the vibe calm and private. A lot of guests appreciate that they can ask questions, get a straight answer, and not feel rushed. And yes, we work with busy families too.
“I always leave so satisfied with my hair, I love the location, the atmosphere, and the fact that I can bring my child when there’s not an option for me to take him to a sitter.”
one of our long-time clients
If you notice unexpected creasing, sudden frizz returning right away, or you’re unsure if a product you own is safe to use, let us know. We’ll talk through what happened, what you used, and how you styled it. Usually it’s a quick fix.
Ready for smoother mornings? If you’re thinking about a Brazilian Blowout, we’ll help you decide if it’s the right match for your hair and your routine. We’re easy to reach in Lexington, especially if you’re already in the New Circle Road and I-75 area.
